What it is
Gardenia — Gardenia jasminoides, zhī zǐ (栀子) — is the creamy-white blossom whose fruit has colored Chinese fabrics, teas and desserts a warm gold for centuries. In the herbal cabinet it is the fruit, not the flower, that earns its place.
What tradition says
Where mugwort and ginger warm, gardenia cools. TCM traditionally uses zhī zǐ to clear heat and calm irritability (清热除烦) — the herb reached for on restless, overheated evenings. In a soak formula it plays the balancing note: warmth for the body, calm for the mood, plus that unmistakable soft floral scent.
Why it's in your bath
Gardenia is one of the eight treasures in our heritage formula, keeping the blend from tipping too hot and lending the water its gentle golden hue — no synthetic dye needed.
