About the products
What is a Chinese herbal bath bomb?
A Chinese herbal bath bomb is a fizzing bath ball built on herbs from the Chinese bathing tradition — mugwort (艾草) is the classic — instead of only fragrance oil. Verdalence presses dried herbs with deep-sea salt into one ball. Drop it in warm water and it dissolves in about a minute, giving you an herbal bath that traditionally meant simmering herbs on the stove for hours. Read our full buyer's guide.
What is the difference between your bath bombs and your foot-soak balls?
The foot-soak balls (the Heritage line) are pure herbal formulas made for the nightly Chinese foot-soak ritual, pao jiao (泡脚): one ball in a basin of warm water, 15 minutes. The scented bath bombs pair a mugwort and deep-sea-salt base with essential-oil scents and are made for a full tub. Short on time or no bathtub? Start with feet. Want a spa-style bath? What is mugwort, and why is it in a bath?
Mugwort (Artemisia, 艾草) is the herb behind moxibustion and one of the oldest plants in Chinese bathing. It has been used for generations in warm baths and foot soaks to chase off cold and wind down before bed. It smells earthy and green, a little like sage. The story of mugwort.
What does it smell like?
The Heritage foot-soak balls smell herbal and earthy, like warm tea and dried leaves, not perfume. The scented bath bombs come in six blends: Chenpi English Breakfast Tea, Minty Lemon Spark, Creamy Peach Rush, Mystic Oud Blossom, Green Tea Grape and Vanilla Jasmine. The 7-scent gift set adds a seventh, Natural Pure Herbal.
Will it stain my tub or skin?
No. We use food-grade colorants that don't stain skin or tub, and no fluorescers or preservatives.
